Klinger's Korner

Luke 10:27  "Love the Lord you God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and Love your neighbor as yourself."

The first week of school has been very good and the students are doing very well.  Some still need to own an NIV Bible for class.  Soon we will be using our Bibles every day.

I am disappointed by the number of parents who are not reading their Christ Light with their child on Mondays and Wednesdays. Please cooperate with this.  It benefits your child and your own soul as well.

I have been teaching all the memory work in class and the students are expected to recite on Tuesdays and Wednesdays before school starts.  They really need to practice the longer ones at home.  I don't accept excuses unless your child was sick or some other emergency.

Watch the weather for changes so your child is dressed appropriately.

Chapel is tomorrow at 9:00 AM.  Feel free to come.  Pray for the continued success of our classroom.

Some people have been asking about next year's supply list for 3&4. Here's what was sent home last spring.:
Spiral notebooks wide rule (not neatbooks): 3rd--3  4th--5
Elmer's glue, crayons ( less than 64 works fine), sharp scissors for art and class related projects, glue sticks and pink erasers.  LABEL THESE THINGS!
Regular pencils: not with fancy coverings as they don't work in the pencil sharpener.
Fourth grade needs erasible blue or black pens and a red pen for correcting.  Third grade needs a red pen for correcting.  They won't be able to write in pen until 2nd semester.
The classroom has sufficient rulers for everyone and I supply the loose leaf paper as needed.
Please do not send markers, pencil sharpeners, eraser tips, or other "cutsie" school supplies.  These usually are a distraction  in the classroom and sometimes cause envy among the students.  I will send them home.
If we need art smocks, I will let the students know.
Please read through the information below.  I'll see you at Opening Service on August 29th at 2:00 PM. PS-- I MOVED TO LAST YEAR'S AFTERSCHOOL CARE ROOM.  PRE-k 3 WILL BE IN OUR OLD CLASSROOM.

Keep the children reading.  It's great fun.  I just finished a series of true stories of children traveling West with their parents in covered wagons. Oh my goodness!  What a trek!  I also read the diary of a gold miner in Nevada during the 1840"s.  We owe a lot to our ancesters who did all the work so we can enjoy the life we have!
Hope you're reading, too.

See you soon!

********************************************************************              HOW THIRD AND FOURTH GRADE WORKS

Ask the Lord for help.

Ask the teacher for help.

The students need to put their best effort into their work every day.

Parents, let me know if there is a problem right away.

HOMEWORK

Students will have some homework at night.  That means Mom and Dad sometimes have to give up some of their (or their child's) nightly events so the kids can have a good homework schedule.

Most of the homework consists of the students reading their "stories" to an adult. Sometimes they need to practice their Math Facts, Spelling words and sometimes they have to study for tests.

The most important homework the students will have is Christ Light and Memory WorkEvery Monday and Wednesday the students will bring their Christ Light home and they will read the lesson to you.  Your job is to go through the parent section and talk things over with them.  Next you can help them learn their Memory Work which will be recited every Tuesday and Thursday morning before school starts. (You can learn the memory verses, too.)  Dad's remember: God gave the important work of instructing your children in his Word to you.  Moms should help.

All homework is due the day after it is assigned.  Most students will finish their assignments at school.

ABSENCE

Homework missing because of illness is to be made up as soon as possible.  The student has one day for each day absent to complete the work.  Talk to me about exceptions.

LOG discourages vacations during school days.  Make up work is hard to collect and very often not well done.  Please do not take vacation time on school days.

Excuses for late work are illness or death in the family.

PARENTS

Please check your child's book bag every night!  Notes, assignments, corrected papers and sometimes notes from school are in there.  Help yourself keep current with LOG by keeping up with your child's book bag.

START TIME

Class starts at 8:10AM with the taking of attendance and hot lunch count.  Christ Light begins at 8:15 and all students should be in their desks and ready to go by then.

It would really help your child a lot if he/she could come up to the classroom by 8:00.  There is always an activity for them to do on their desk when they get to school and they sometimes have to recite Memory Work. When the student arrives at 8:10, it puts them behind for the whole day.

HOT LUNCH

Lunches need to be ordered before the school day begins.  Please let your child know if he/she is having hot or cold lunch.  Many children do not know.  Check the hot lunch link for payment details.

You should have received a supply list. Please label pencils, scissors, glue and crayon boxes.  I recommend pencil bags for each child instead of pencil boxes because they fit more easily in the student desk.  Fourth graders need at least five note books (Math, English, Spelling, and Social Studies.)  Third grade needs three (English, Spelling, and Social Studies).  If you buy extras, that's okay because they fill the first notebooks up with homework and they will need to be replaced.  No one needs to buy loose leaf paper.  I provide that.  Third grade may not use ink pens until the second semester.  Fourth grade needs erasible blue or black and a red pen.  NO MARKERS for anyone.
Bring your questions to orientation on August 29th at 2:00PM  If you're interested in our school, or know of anyone who might be interested, call (414) 321-8780.
